The pattern of change in the gross industrial output value also shows that the non-state sector has been increasing its important in the economic development of Guangzhou. Gross industrial output value rose from 10.60 billion in 1982 to 237.54 billion in 1997, making an average increase of 16.26 per cent between 1979 and 1997 and 22.98 per cent between 1991 and 1997. Per capita gross industrial output value also increased from 1,586 yuan in 1978 to 35,922 yuan in 1997. In terms of ownership, between 1982 and 1997, the percentage of gross industrial output value decreased from 74.07 to 25.37 in the state sector and from 24.11 to 8.77 in the collectively owned sector, while that of enterprises with other types of ownership increased from 1.83 to 65.86 (Table 8.4).
